Business Description

Locally owned and operated lawn care business serving Shawnee, Lenexa, and Piper, KS. Good people, fair prices, and quality All-American work.

My Story – Jerry Logan, Logan Lawns

If you’re the type that appreciates good old fashion hardwork and doing business with good people that care about doing things right, then you will appreciate my American dream story.

Sometimes the best opportunities are born during tough economic times; from the rubble of the Great Recession to a rapidly growing Lawn Care business serving the Shawnee, Lenexa,Bonner Springs, Edwardsville and Piper areas of Kansas City. Thank you for visiting my little home on the Internet.

I don’t know about you but I like to know who I am doing business with. I don’t like to pick a name out of the phone book or call a random yard sign. I prefer a trusted referral from a close friend but if I can’t find a referral then I at least like to do my research. So if you’re like me, even when I get a referral, I still like to read up about a company before doing business. And that’s why I thought you would appreciate getting to know me.

Where do I start? Well… I guess from the beginning.

I grew up in Topeka and mowed my first lawn at 9 years old; back in 1982. I started working for my step dad’s lawn care business in 7th grade; AAA Lawn Service. So I guess you could say that I grew up in the lawn business for the last 33 years. I don’t know if that counts for anything but lawn care is in my blood.

So while my lawn business in Western Johnson County may be new, I am not new to the industry. Since the time I was 12 years old I worked for my stepdad; through high school at Washburn Rural and up until I started attending Washburn University to play baseball.

College just wasn’t my thing though. I was always a work with my hands type of guy and couldn’t resist the temptation to make money. With my background, I was hired on to the Parks and Recreation division of the Forestry Department for the City of Topeka trimming mature trees.

Trimming trees was a good job for a young guy but after meeting my beautiful wife, Michelle, I was ready to move and start a new journey in Kansas City. We moved to Edwardsville and got married in 2000.

My first job in Kansas City was with the State of Kansas as a heavy equipment operator. I ran backhoes, motor graders, front end loaders, bobcats, and drove salt trucks to plow highways. As you may expect, I have a Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL).

In an effort to make more money, I joined the Local #61 Carpenter’s Union in 2000 and completed a three year apprenticeship program that taught me metal framing, hanging sheetrock, and welding. I was certified in operating scissor lifts and completed OSHA 30 training.

I have spent over 13 years doing commercial metal framing in the Carpenter’s Union working for Allied Construction, Firebaugh Construction, and Performance Contracting Group. It was great experience and I helped build some notable Kansas City landmarks;
• Kaufman Performing Arts Center, KCMO
• Live Strong Soccer Stadium where Sporting KC plays in KCK
• Allen Fieldhouse Museum in Lawrence, KS
• Independence Hockey Arena where the Mavricks play in Independence, MO

On the personal side, I married my wife, Michelle, in 2000 and have three wonderful children; Jaylen (18), Jayda (8), and Jasper (5). We still live Edwardsville. As you probably already gathered, I love baseball. I coach my son’s 3&2 little league team and still manage to play competitively with the Mid-America 30 & Over Fast Pitch League. We attend Westside Family Church in Lenexa every Sunday; you may even recognize me, we are greeters at the 11:00am service. If you ever find yourself at Westside, come say hello

I could give you the standard marketing spiel but I don’t think that is going to convince you to do business with me. Getting to me and what I am about is probably more important.

After Taking on projects building Tractor Supply Co. which required me to spend far to much time on the road away from my family. I felt like the time was right to get out and try my hand in something I always enjoyed... the lawn business. 2012 will be my first full year and I am looking for new clients.

Actually, I got started in the fall of 2011 with the brand Absolute Lawns; with referrals from friends and some old fashioned hustle, I managed to get several aerating jobs. Most of the jobs were in the Granite Falls, Grey Oaks, Lake Pointe. I thought that was pretty good and was convinced I could make this into a real business if I apply myself.

My goal is to get 50 lawns per week in the first two months. And to get there, I am willing to be the most competitive and do what it takes to earn business. I would rather be working and earning referrals and letting this expensive equipment not make any money. From experience, I know that the best way to get new lawn customers is to offer great prices, All-American service with a smile, and do good work. Once people give me an opportunity, I will do what it takes to keep them. I am interested in building my business one client at a time.

I figure that if I take good care of people, my bottom line will take care of itself. It is a philosophy, you know what I mean?

I do all the work; I do the bidding, maintenance, and the mowing so I know it gets done right. I change my blades every week.

I carry a $2M commercial general liability insurance policy through Mark Elling, State Farm.

Image is important to me. You will always see me in nice shirts, operating commercial grade equipment that is well-maintained, driving a nice ’07 Toyota Tundra; earned with hardwork and diligent saving.

In the lawn business, efficiency is important. I don’t want to be driving all over town; it is just too time consuming and the cost of fuel to expensive. If I keep my territory smaller, I can offer better service and more competitive pricing.
Since I live in Edwardsville, I want to keep everything close in nearby Bonner Springs, Shawnee, Lenexa, and Piper.

Within Shawnee, I plan to service the 66218, 66220, 66226, 66227 zip codes and the following lists of subdivisions: Mill Creek Meadow, Lake Pointe, Granite Falls, Estates of Greenview Ridge, Greens of Chapel Creek, Deer Ridge Estates, Estates of Highland Ridge, Ridgestone Meadows, Enchanted Lake Estates, Clear Creek, the Timbers of Clear Creek, Gleason Glen, Grey Oaks, Woodland Valley, and Cedar Springs II.

Within Piper, I plan to service the 66109 zip code and the Maxines Estates , Northridge at Piper Estates, Wispering Ridge Swan Farms, Pivilions of Piper, Canaan Woods, Swan Lake, and Colony at Canaan.

When it comes to lawn care, I do it all from complete turf renovations to simple lawn mowing. I mow short and remove clipping in the spring. I offer spring and fall clean up, including mulch. I can “round up” any unwanted grass or weeds in your driveway or sidewalks. I offer power rake dethatching, verti-cutting, core aeration (one to three passes). I spread grass seed with fine fescue, bluegrass, or shade blends. I offer Amigo fescue, Rugby II Bluegrass, and Nuglade Bluegrass with broadcast applications. I apply fertilizer and top dressings (seed cover / soil conditioner), and organic compose.

If you live in any of these areas and are in need any of lawn care services, please contact me at jdlogan4@hotmail.com. I want to earn your business and will beat any price. I will put together a proposal you will like.

My tagline and promise is, “Good people, fair prices, and quality work.”
